La Paz, Baja June 6 - June 13, 2009 Located on the Sea of Cortez, this area known for schooling hammerheads, giant mantas and whalesharks!!
La Paz. Baja Mexico was a fabulous location to visit. The town was very pleasant and non-commercial. The locals showed the utmost in hospitality and we enjoyed our evenings in town and at the resort alike. The diving has many different seasons and each season brings it's own variety of creature life to this area. At first glance, it was unlike any diving I had done to this point. Visibility cleared up throughout the week and was spectacular by week's end. Whale sharks and Hammerheads arrive later in the fall, but we were very fortunate to explore so many different dive locations with a vast array of geographical settings. The aquatic life varied from Sea Lions (soooooooo cool) to Moorish Idols and every type, size and color of star fish that you can imagine. Yellow cup corals, Scorpion fish, Sea of Cortez Angels, King Angels and Bull's Eye Sting rays were abundant. The most unique fish we observed was the Giant Jawfish. At first glance I thought someone was playing a trick on me as I saw in a large hole this toy like fish with huge eyes watching me! It was the coolest thing I've ever seen!! I will go back to La Paz and dive with my Whalesharks and do more in the way of touring. We did visit the actual Hotel California which inspired the Eagles song of the same name....how cool is that!!!
